Sumitomo Mitsui スミトモミツイ

I was trying to get some Skype Credit by paying via bank transfer. Well, it was my first time paying for anything (except my house rent) via bank transfer.

And so, with the Payment Slip from issued by Skype in hand, I tried to transfer the money from my own bank to Skype's bank account.

It was to be done with the ATM, so, I went to the ATM, and the screen says something like,
"Insert the first (kana) letter of the name of the bank you want to transfer the money to"

So, I keyed in "Su", the first kana of the bank name. And....the ATM goes searching through the list and displays all the banks with names starting with "Su". I couldn't find the bank Skype allocated me to pay to!!

I tried about 5, 6 times, but to no avail. And before I realize it, there was a long line behind me, people waiting to use the ATM. And so, I had no choice but to give up and I thought to myself that I shall try again the next day.

I had absolutely no idea what happened back there. It is supposed to be absolutely fine to transfer to any bank from any ATM in Japan. Why didn't the name of the bank appear in the search list?? Did I do something wrong somewhere? Was the machine spoilt??
A thousand questions ran through my mind and I decided to ask Mai about it that very night.

Beth said "Umm...i can't transfer the money to Sumitomo Mitsui bank..."
and Mai didn't allow me to finish my sentence before she exclaimed,
"Sumitomo Mitsui?? You mean Mitsui Sumitomo, right?"

And i was like.......a huge rock just fell on my head, "WHAT THE HECK?!" was what I thought.

Ok, Skype's payment slip says (in English) "Pay to Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation". Not my mistake. Clearly.

According to Mai, there's no Sumitomo Mitsui in Japan, just "Mitsui Sumitomo"...so... what exactly was the problem here?

According to Japanese culture, surnames (last names) are written before first names. And every Japanese national has their "English" name written the other way around, with the Last name at the back and the first name in front, just like any other Western name.

And so......they decided to do that to a bank's name now?? That's the only plausible explanation I can get from this.

スカイプクレジットを購入するために、銀行振込で料金を払う事になった。

そして、昨日ATMで振込みをしようと思った。

銀行の名前の入力画面で、銀行の名前を仮名で入力して検索した。
何回も試したのに、その銀行の名前は出なかった。
５、６回やってみて、やっぱり、ないわ。銀行の名前、出てこなかった。
気づいたら、自分の後ろにはもう行列がすでにできていた。
仕方なかったから諦めて、翌日もう一回試しようと思って家に帰りました。

やり方がちがうか、自分がなにか勘違いしてるかと思って、詳しくマイちゃんに聞いてみました。

ベス：スミトモミツイ銀行に振り込む事ができなかった。。。

マイ：スミトモミツイ？みついすみともでしょう。

ベス：ああ！！？

請求書には、英語で
「Pay to Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation」
って書いてあったよ。

日本の銀行についてもわからない外国人のベスは、思いつかないでしょう、Sumitomo Mitsuiっていうのは、本当は三井住友だって、わからないよ。。。まったく。

まさか、銀行の名前でも、外国人の名前みたいに、「苗字」が後ろについてると思わなかったわ。。。

今日夕方、無事に振り込みできました。ちゃんと、ミツイ　スミトモ　に振り込みました。

絶対お箸に嫌われてる

友人と食事。

フード来ました～～～

一口も食べてないのに、お箸を落とした。

店員さんを呼びました。
ベス：「すみません、、、お箸をください。」

お箸がうまく使用できず、５分後また落とした。

店員さんを呼びました。前と同じ方が来た。
ベス：「すみません、、、また、やってしまった。お箸をください」
友達：「このままじゃ、お箸の料金もとられちゃうよ」


今回はたぶん、５分も経ってなかった。
そこのお箸が私になんか恨みを持ってるかと思うくらい。。。
また、やっちまった。

さっきの店員さんがちょうど近くいて、
友達が声をかけた。

友達：「もう、この人お箸だめみたい。フォークをください。」

（爆）

４回は落とさないでしょう。。。。。。もう。。。

とにかく、

フォークでうどんを食べました。
